Strawberry Trifle

Strawberry Trifle

Well the heat of summer is here in Texas and I can’t even think about cooking or baking anything in the house because of it. So when I want to make dessert, I have to think of as many no bake recipes as I can. One of the things I look forward to most in the summer are the sweet strawberries and all of the desserts that are made with them. Because I love them so much, it only stands to reason that my desserts are made with them 🙂 In fact, my family and I have a tradition of buying Angel Food cake at Whole Foods market (it is the best!) along with strawberries and whipped cream for our summer time dessert for at least 6 years now. Usually we just macerate the strawberries (adding a little sugar to the berries to sweeten them and bring out some juice) and place those and some whipped cream on top of a big slice of Angel food cake. It is delicious. This weekend though, we had guests coming over and I wanted to make sure most of the food prep and cooking was done before they arrived so that I can enjoy my time with them and not be stuck in the kitchen. With that, we decided to pull out the handy trifle dish and make a strawberry trifle with our usual ingredients but change up the presentation. If you do not own a trifle dish you are missing out. First, they are so cheap so that shouldn’t be an issue, second, you can throw just about any type of sweet ingredients in and marvel at the beautiful layers and third, desserts can be made ahead of time. To me it is an all around win! This dish was so delicious, so summery and so easy that we will definitely be making it again. You can assemble it up to 4 hours ahead of time and it will last in the fridge for at least 24 hours after your party without loosing it’s integrity 🙂
